UGANDA CONSULATE IN ARUSHA IN PARTNERSHIP WITH MR AMOS WEKESA AT KILIMANJARO MARATHON, HOSTED A SHAKE-UP RUN AND PROMOTED THE TUSKER LITE MT. RWENZORI MARATHON
On February 22, 2025, the Uganda Consulate in Arusha, in partnership with the Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon, hosted an energizing shake-up run in Moshi, bringing together runners from Uganda and Kenya. The event aimed to promote the highly anticipated Mt. Rwenzori Marathon, which will be officially launched on February 23rd during the three-day 23rd edition of the Kilimanjaro Marathon.
Mr. Amos Wekesa warmly welcomed participants and encouraged them to register early for the Mt. Rwenzori Marathon, emphasizing the importance of securing accommodation in advance. He shared that he had negotiated with Uganda Airlines to offer an attractive travel package for participants attending the event.
In his address, Mr. Wekesa recounted the history of the Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon, which began with just 800 participants and has since grown to approximately 4,000 runners in recent editions. He commended the Uganda Consulate in Arusha for its tireless efforts in promoting Uganda as a top tourism destination through such initiatives. He further expressed his commitment to continued collaboration with the Consulate on future projects.
Ambassador Anne Katusiime expressed her gratitude to the Kenyan delegation for their enthusiastic support of the Mt. Rwenzori Marathon, demonstrated by their participation in the shake-up run while wearing the official marathon kit. She also thanked Mr. Wekesa for involving the Consulate in the Kilimanjaro Marathon, highlighting that tourism is a key pillar of Uganda’s national development strategy, with an ambitious goal to grow the economy tenfold in the next decade.
Ambassador Katusiime also acknowledged Mr. Wekesa’s pivotal role in the creation and growth of the Mt. Rwenzori Marathon and encouraged participants to take part, fostering a deeper connection between the Kilimanjaro and Rwenzori marathons.
On the final day of the Kilimanjaro Marathon, the Uganda Consulate team, led by Ambassador Anne Katusiime, actively participated in the marathon and engaged with visitors at the Great Lakes Safaris exhibition tent, hosted by Mr. Amos Wekesa. The team proudly showcased Uganda’s premier tourist attractions, Uganda Airlines and its diverse routes, the country’s exceptional coffee, and Uganda Waragi—unifying spirits in every sense!
The event served as an excellent platform for networking, sparking insightful discussions on how various sectors can collaborate to boost tourism in Uganda. The Uganda Consulate remains committed to fostering partnerships that promote Uganda as a leading tourism and sports destination in the region.
